CCTV News (News Broadcast): In the first few months of 2024, China's ports have seen a steady increase in cargo throughput and container handling, with the adoption of new equipment and technologies pushing traditional ports towards intelligent and green transformation, driving the high-quality development of water transportation.

Recently, the world's largest class of container ship, the "Modern Southampton," berthed at Tianjin Port's Beijiang Intelligent Container Terminal, where it achieved an impressive operating speed of 209 natural boxes per hour, setting a new global efficiency record for the vessel's route. This level of operational efficiency is largely due to the recently upgraded, fully domestically produced control system.

Tianjin Port, as the world's first fully Internet of Things-enabled container terminal, boasts state-of-the-art smart facilities that contribute significantly to its efficient operations. From January to April 2024, Tianjin Port Group handled 7.395 million TEUs of containers, representing a 6.2% year-on-year growth, marking a new high for the same period in history.

Data from the Ministry of Transport shows that during the same period, China's ports processed 55.5 billion tons of cargo, up 5.2%, and handled 100 million TEUs of containers, up 9%.

While enhancing efficiency, green and low-carbon equipment is also promoting sustainable development in ports. At Rizhao Port in Shandong, a 22-megawatt solar photovoltaic project started grid connection, boosting the port's green energy supply. Additionally, three smart charging stations were introduced, along with 178 electric trucks, greatly reducing fuel consumption and carbon emissions. This dual approach has significantly improved the port's green capabilities. Currently, several more green and intelligent terminals are under construction across the country, with plans to establish a number of world-class green and smart ports by 2027.
